A healthy mind for a healthy body seems to be the new mantra of The Graduate School College for Women in Sakchi, Jamshedpur.

To help beat stress and increase concentration among students, the college will introduce morning assembly, meditation and yoga classes from the upcoming session starting July 4.

The morning assembly will be held on the college grounds at 10.30am.

"Our college has over 6,000 students and at present we won't be able to accommodate so many girls. So initially we will start with few responsible students who are willing to attend the assembly," said Usha Shukla, college principal.

Meditation classes will also be held on a regular basis for five minutes before and after classes.

"Nowadays students are glued to their mobiles and suffer from poor concentration. The meditation classes will help them release stress and also boost their immune system," said Shukla.

The college is presently on the lookout for a yoga teacher to take classes weekly or fortnightly. Faculty members also plan to put up posters on the campus on do's and don'ts of leading a disciplined life.

Students sounded sceptical with the decision.

"The whole initiative sounds similar to that in school. College life is also about having fun with friends. I still doubt how many students will agree to attend the assembly or yoga classes," said Ritu Kumari, a second-year student of political science.
