Jamshedpur, April 22: A woman was allegedly stabbed by her husband after she opposed his third marriage.
The husband, Jai Prakash Gour, is absconding.
The incident occurred at Gadra under Parsudih police station late last night.
Geeta Devi, 35, was Jai Prakash?s second wife. Recently, she came to know that her husband had secretly married a girl at the Sakchi Sitla Mandir and has kept her at a rented house in the city.
Geeta lodged a complaint against her husband with the Parsudih police station yesterday. This made Jai Prakash angry and he allegedly assaulted her with a knife.
Geeta?s hand was injured as she was trying to resist the attack.
She has been admitted to the MGM Medical College Hospital?s surgical ward. She has sustained severe knife injuries on her left hand.
The police have registered a case of attempted murder against Jai Prakash Gour.
Jai Prakash, 40, is a civil contractor and has landed properties in the city?s suburban Parsudih locality.
Geeta?s husband and in-laws used to regularly scold her whenever she raised an objection over Jai Prakash affairs.
The victim said she had married Jai Prakash about 10 years ago.
?I did not know that I was getting married to a man who already has a wife and child. However, I accepted the situation and agreed to stay with my husband,? Geeta said.
The police has begun investigation into the incident.
