Come May 26, art will roar at Tata Steel Zoological Park in Jamshedpur.
Tata zoo and Acharya Nandalal Bose Art Gallery at Bengal Club, Sakchi, will jointly organise an art camp on zoo premises from May 26 to 28.
The annual art camp, held for the past seven years in the zoo, tries to bring art and animal lovers on one platform, a unique event in India.
Around 30 artists, including 15 professionals and 15 art school students in the age group of 18 to 27, will take part in the camp. They will paint from 10am to 5pm on May 26 and 27 while their paintings will be put up in an exhibition-cum-sale on May 28, the last day. Whatever proceeds are generated from the sales will be distributed among artists or spent on social work.
This year, the art camp theme is Connect to Nature, inspired by the United Nations' thought on World Environment Day.
"This is an unique initiative to connect nature with art. We hope to get a good crowd," said Shubhendu Biswas, convener of the art camp.
"The camp will prove to be a learning platform for young artists and children as they will get to interact with senior artists in town," he added.
With schools closed for summer holidays, Tata zoo officials also expect a good turnout this time for the camp.
"Besides gazing at animals, children and their parents can admire beautiful paintings. This is a good way to inculcate love for wildlife," said Bipul Chakraborty, Tata zoo director.
