REMEMBER: Ideally, aquarium should be placed at waist-level

Feng Shui gives a lot of importance to water as it is considered to be synonymous to wealth. When rightly placed, water features have the power to attract wealth and prosperity to our homes.

Houses that are located near busy roads are always plagued by noise and pollution caused by vehicles. To overcome this, we can get some relief by installing a water feature that emits gentle sounds of cascading water.

While it’s cooling effect is a blessing during summer, the sound of flowing water creates a peaceful ambience in our house.

These water features are the best factors that can enhance good health, wealth and career opportunities. They can be introduced in the house in the form of water fountains, aquarium or by simply placing a bowl of fresh water. One has to be very careful with their positioning as any wrong placement can have adverse effects.

Those who are fond of keeping fish bowls and aquarium would do well to use containers that relate to the shapes of the ruling elements of particular directions. Avoid square-shaped aquarium as this shape is associated with the earth element and is not compatible with water, because it overpowers it.

Triangular-shaped fancy aquarium should also not be used as this shape represents fire. It is best to opt for circular or rectangular fish bowls or aquarium. Circular ones are best for the northern sector as this shape represents metal, which nourishes its ruling water element. This gives an immediate boost to one’s career. Rectangular aquarium are best placed in the east or south-east as this shape belongs to its ruling wood element and is nourished by water. This enhances your health and wealth.

Red goldfish are very popular in China because red represents happiness, and their glittering gold scales are symbolic of wealth. An odd number of nine fish is always recommended. Eight goldfish are best, because the number represents eternity. One black goldfish is put in to absorb the negative energy in the house.

Kept together, it results in the number nine, which is not only auspicious but also considered to be a magical number by the Chinese, as it gives you complete happiness from heaven and earth.

Do not be disheartened if any fish dies, because the negativity of your house will be absorbed by it. It should, however, be replaced with a new one.

Pumps and filters can further stimulate the movement generated by the fish in water. This keeps the water bubbling and sparkling clean.

People should only opt for aquarium if they can maintain them, for if they become dirty, they become negative features of the house.

In fact, keeping a small or a big water fountain, depending on the available space, is a better option where a fresh glass of water is added every day to refresh the circulating water.

One can also place a round metallic shallow bowl or a pot full of water in the north and change it every morning. Small rectangular shallow bowls can be filled with fresh water and placed in the south-east part of the living room.

You can also float flower petals in it as this invites positive wealth energy. This can be further strengthened by placing a stone that is painted in gold in each of the four pots, as this is symbolic of abundance of wealth in your house in the form of pots of gold.

Similar shaped pots, or bowls, but three in number can be placed to highlight the health area of the east.

Do not use red roofs for the aquarium that are placed in the north and white or metallic ones in the east and south-east. Instead blue and metallic ones are best kept in the north and green and blue fibreglass ones in the east and south-east.

Ensure that these aquarium are placed at a low height. Just as water at the time of high tide has the potential to be dangerous, so does water that is placed at a high level.

Placing aquarium at waist level is ideal. The flow of the fountains should always be inside the house and never outside, as this is symbolic of drainage of wealth.

Tip of the week: If the north, east or south-east sectors of your house are missing, you must immediately install a water feature in any form. These areas can be further highlighted and made more powerful by introducing blue light in the north and a blend of blue and green lights in the eastern sector.
