Faced with acute water crisis due to manifold increase in water consumption, Jharkhand Mineral Area Development Authority (JMADA), is working on a plan to interconnect its 50 year old water treatment supply network at Jamadoba with the unused water supply infrastructure of L&T Infrastructure Engineering Ltd at Jorapokhar.

The move is aimed at compensating for the shortfall in the filtered water production from the Water Treatment Plant of JMADA in Jamadoba as the old plant established during the early 50s often faces frequent water supply failure to move then 5 lakh residents of Jharia and Katras.

Talking to The Telegraph Online, Indresh Shukla, Executive Engineer of JMADA said, “A host of factors including increase in population ever since the establishment of plants besides increase in water expenses of per family as well as wear and tear in the old water supply infrastructure has led to lesser production of filtered water compared to demand.

Interconnecting the L&T Water Supply Network at Jorapokhar with our water supply network at Jamadoba will help to ensure sufficient water supply.”

Notably JMADA at present supplies around 176 lakh gallons of water in Jharia through its 12 million gallon per day capacity water treatment plant and simultaneously supplies around 71 lakh gallon liters of water per day to Katras through its 9 million gallon per day capacity water treatment plant at Jamadoba.
