Ranchi, Feb. 8: The battlefield was inside BIT, Mesra, campus and the warriors were robots who clashed in an event, “Robo Wars”.

On the last day of Unnayan-2007, the inter-college tech fest at BIT, Mesra, four robots — Shiv, Terminator, Bacardi and Beatles — were seen battling for the top slot, controlled by students who held the remotes.

Robot Shiv emerged as the clear winner by using a “scoop mechanism”, which involved lifting the opponent and toppling it. Having a powerful motor, the robot took only eight seconds to overpower Robot Beatles.

The robot is a brainchild of three final year students of electrical engineering — Sudeep Gupta, Ashish Kumar Singh and Sourabh Bhowmick. “We had designed our robot in just two and half days. We feel proud and we are working on similar ideas for the future,” said Sudeep.

Robot Beatles, which was covered by metal plates on three sides, pounded opponents using a hammer attached to its front. The first runner up at the event, the robot was the brainchild of Aloke Anand, Rohit Vatsa, Samrat Debnath and Kumar Gourav. “We designed our robot in the form of an insect, hence the name, ” said Aloke. The weight of each robot was 3 kg and students of BIT have decided to prepare a robot weighing 10 kg next year.

The “Robo War” was followed by “Who’s Kotler”, where participants were asked to sell a mobile. “It was interesting since it included everything from advertising to selling,” said Shivangi, a student.

This was followed by a lecture by vice president of L & T, A.P Mishra, who threw light on the qualities of a manager. “A manager sets his own goal. He assumes responsibility of every one,” he added.

“It was one of the biggest event of the year. Even outstation students have promised to return next year,” said electrical engineering student Kannan G. The students are now gearing up for the BITotsav, the cultural fest scheduled to start from next week.
