Dhanbad: Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University is planning to launch a coordination centre here for students of previous batches of undergraduate and postgraduate students of different colleges under its jurisdiction.

The moves comes a day after Vinoba Bhave University closed its regional centre here on Tuesday citing technical reasons. In all, 48 colleges were de-linked from VBU in Hazaribagh and put under the jurisdiction of Koylanchal varsity earlier this year.

Unhappy with VBU's move, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members met Koylanchal varsity vice chancellor Anjani Kumar Srivastava and submitted a memorandum demanding continuation of the regional centre till a new coordination centre comes up.

Parishad member Pushp Ranjan said, "More than 53,000 students of 48 constituent colleges of Koylanchal varsity in Dhanbad and Bokaro will face problems because of the closure of the regional centre since they have to visit Hazaribagh for collecting degree certificates and for carrying out rectifications in the mark sheets." He added that the problem would be more for girl students.

"We can't understand the reasons for the lack of coordination between the two universities and why the hub was not planned before the closure of the regional centre," said Ranjan.

VBU vice chancellor Ramesh Sharan said, "We had to shut down the regional centre because its existence became irrelevant following the setting up of the new university."

"The issue can be easily solved by renaming the centre as the coordination hub. This way, there won't be any need to hire extra manpower for the purpose," said Sharan.

Srivastava said, "We will soon launch the coordination centre as we can't let our students suffer."

VBU registrar Parmanand Mahto said, "Launching the coordination hub should not be a problem. If need be, we can launch two coordination centres in Dhanbad and Bokaro. These centres will function like post offices where students can come and apply for certificates or request recheck of exam papers."

The Koylanchal campus, coming up on nearly 25 acres at a cost of Rs 348.50 crore, is likely to be ready by 2020.
