Ranchi, Oct. 18: Ranchi University today postponed the Senate meeting scheduled for October 29. The decision was taken at the Syndicate meet today.

The agenda to be tabled at the Senate whenever it meets was, however, approved. Registrar L.N. Bhagat said the meeting was postponed due to unavoidable reasons. A new date, however, will be decided soon, he said, adding that the Syndicate had empowered vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha to fix the new date after consulting Governor Ved Marwah.

The university also constituted a committee headed by pro vice-chancellor A.A. Khan to ascertain if the affiliation to 27 colleges could be renewed. The committee will establish if the college had paid a security deposit of Rs 2.5 lakh against the first faculty member and Rs 1.5 lakh each for the the rest, if it had land of its own and if teachers were appointed by the university-approved Governing Body.

The panel, sources said, would review the cases for affiliation in April 2005 after having concluded its inquiry. ?Based on its findings, the committee may recommend affiliation for the colleges. If the colleges are found wanting on these counts, the committee would propose de-affiliation,? sources said.

The committee will also look into the particular cases of RVS College, Jamshedpur, Basia College, Basia and Mazdoor Kisan College, Panki. These colleges had been given affiliation for a year. In addition, the Syndicate also gave a go-ahead to reaffiliation of Botany honours in St. Xavier?s College, Bhagat said.

The Syndicate also gave its seal of approval to the decisions taken at the Ranchi University academic council meeting on October 15.
