Jamshedpur, Dec. 19: What will the steel city look like 20 years from now. Broader roads, systematic parking slots, proper drainage system and supply water round the clock ?
All this and more if the comprehensive master plan for the city that’s been assigned to US-based global agency, Superior Global, sees implementation.
As of now, the plan — the first of its kind in the city — is expected to be completed by August 2008.
Superiro Global officials, who were in the city today to review its progress and collect various data, said the master plan would cover areas under the four civic bodies of the city, namely — Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), Adityapur Notified Area Committee (ANAC) and Jugsalai Municipality.
It will also cover eight villages in the periphery and areas like Kitadih, Haludbani and Parsudih.
“The master plan is being prepared for Greater Jamshedpur covering the areas under the four municipal bodies and eight villages. Once it is approved by the state urban development ministry it becomes a policy. Never before has such a master plan been prepared for Jamshedpur,” said Sunil Kumar, special officer of JNAC and member of the master plan steering committee.
The steering committee is headed by deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Nitin Madan Kulkarni and includes special officers of the civic bodies and representatives of various corporate houses, railways and the Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (AIADA).
Today morning, the director of Superior Global Sanjay Singh (who looks after the Indian operations) and representative of William Roberts and Todd (the partenering agency) Jonathan Smulian visited the city and held discussions with steering committee members. They also met the chairman of the steering committee.
A local representative of Superior Global told The Telegraph that the idea behind the master plan was to ensure systemic growth of the city.
“The master plan would help stop haphazard construction of buildings, roads and industries. The master plan would suggest where to construct industries, residential buildings, sewerage lines, railway tracks, water supply connections and related things,” he said.
The next meeting of the steering committee is scheduled for January.
Superior Global, which is being paid Rs 1.5 crore for the Jamshedpur master plan, has also submitted tenders for similar exercises in Dhanbad and Ranchi.
At present, it is working on about eight railway projects across the country. It has also helped in preparing the design of the Delhi Metro.
