Jamshedpur, Feb. 4: Inspiration figured high at the literary forum of Urdu intellectuals organised by the city chapter of Anjuman Taraqqi-e-Urdu (Hind), a literary forum of Urdu intellectuals.

The seminar at the Michael John auditorium in Bistupur, which brought together eminent scholars from across the country, saw them enthusiastically discuss the life and works of Urdu fiction writer Qurratulain Hyder, winner of several awards like the Jnanpith Award and the Sahitya Academy Award and well known as the author of Aag Ka Dariya.

“A lot of credit goes to her for contributing so handsomely towards the development of the language. With the kind of social issues she raised in her works, it is left to us to imbibe her style and use it for the growth of the language,” said Khalid Anjum, the general secretary of the central office of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi in New Delhi.

A scholar himself, Anjum presented a paper on comparative studies on development in English and Urdu, tracing the growth of the two in contemporary times.

Today’s function saw the likes of Dr Sadiq, professor of Delhi University and Shahid Mahuli, the director of Ghalib Institute in New Delhi, come together for the national-level seminar. Devender Issar, an Urdu critic, was given the highest honour, the Khusrau award at the event. Issar, who’s from Delhi, bagged the award for his contribution towards growth of the Urdu language.

Participated by many city-based scholars, the two-day event held by the literary group concluded this evening.
