Jamshedpur/Ranchi, May 26: The CBSE Plus Two tally graph in the steel city showed a marked improvement compared to last year’s.

In the results that were declared today, the commerce percentage rose from last year’s 84.8 per cent to an impressive 90.8 per cent. The science tally hovered around the 91 per cent mark this year as compared to last year’s 91.6 per cent.

Alok Advin Kachhap of Jamshedpur Public School topped the pure science stream with 90.6 per cent, while Prateek Mustafi of St Mary’s English School trailed with 89.8 per cent. Romy Jose and Prashant Prem of Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya outshone their contemporaries in the bio-science stream with 88.6 and 88.2 per cent respectively. Atasi Sinha of JPS, however, maintained her lead in the commerce stream with 90.8 per cent and Richa Singhal of DAV Public School, Bistupur, followed with 88 per cent.

Though the school authorities averred that the average performance of the students had improved, students seemed disappointed, barring the toppers. “I had expected higher marks in Physics and Chemistry, but in general, I am satisfied with what I have scored and am now looking forward to my IIT main results due on June 17,” said an excited Alok Advin of JPS, who topped the pure science stream. “I shared my time for preparing for my boards and entrances and was thus able to strike a balance,” he said.

“Alok was regular with his studies from the first day and had really toiled hard. We are extremely happy for him,” beamed John M. Kachhap, Alok’s father. “His friends first informed us of his performance this morning and we are satisfied to see his efforts bear fruit,” he added.

As for Romy, city topper in the bio-science stream, it was regular attendance in school and paying attention in class that made him do well in the exams. “I feel if one is regular with his studies and is attentive in class, one can come out with flying colours in the boards,” said Romy. However, he too was a bit disappointed with his performance in Chemistry in which he expected a higher percentage.

“I feel the overall performance of our students has improved with the average class marks in the science stream being over 70 per cent and 63 per cent in commerce. However, there is still scope for improvement,” said Lalita Sareen, principal of JPS.

In the capital, Delhi Public School had a surprise in store with Anupam Prakash topping the science stream with 92.4 per cent. The school always faced tough competition from DAV-Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali. But this time, DPS stole the show. “We always knew that he would do it. He has been such a good student,” said one of Anupam’s teachers. Anindya Dey, also of DPS, ranked second with 91.2 per cent.

DAV-Shyamali’s performance was consistent with Ashish Kumar Srivastava securing 92.2 per cent in science. “I never expected it. It is like a dream come true. I am very happy,” he said. Tejaswi topped the arts stream with 87.2 per cent. DAV-Kapil Deo, considered a dark horse, also performed well. While Kaushal Kumar topped with 91 per Shailesh came followed with 90.2 per cent.
