Jamshedpur/Ranchi, May 11: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) today announced results of the civil services examination, throwing up some off-the-beaten-track results from Jharkhand — among those who have ranked high are a food critic and an electrical engineer.
The results proved that Jamshedpur (city) SP Jatin Narwal was lucky for wife Shweta. Newlywed Shweta (26) bagged a creditable all-India rank of 52, and that too without any coaching class.
“I qualified for the IAS in my second attempt. It’s a dream-come-true for me,” said the voracious reader and former food critic of a Mumbai-based newspaper.
An alumnus of Sophia Girls’ School in Meerut and St Xavier’s College in Mumbai (English honours), she wanted to take the civil services exam to “serve society”.
Shweta added she appeared for her interview just before her wedding last month.
Proud hubby Jatin said: “I want her to be an able officer.”
Rahul Kumar Sinha (28) bagged rank 60 in its fourth attempt. He studied till Class VII at St Xavier’s School, Ranchi and moved to Hazaribagh, finishing Class XII at DPS, Bokaro. He studied electrical engineering in Pune.
Currently, he is training to be an IPS officer at Hyderabad’s National Police Academy, as he had bagged 142nd rank last year.
According to Rahul, appearing for civil services was a family tradition, but this was the first time someone cracked the IAS. “All credit goes to dad’s motivation,” he said.
“Initially, I studied 16 hours a day to fulfill his dream. Slowly as my confidence grew, the hours shrunk,” he laughed, referring to his father V.K. Sinha, currently district judge in Jamui (Bihar).
Unlike his older brother and younger sister, he did not take up a lucrative corporate job. “I want to be close to the masses to devise solutions. Just like a hands-on manager. Not a ruler,” he signed off.
