A host of CBSE schools are set to introduce new sets of uniform for their students from the academic session, beginning April, that will also see a series of changes being introduced to improve teaching quality and ensure transparency in academic activities.
JVM-Shyamali has made tie and blazer mandatory for students of Classes IV and V from this year. So far, tie and blazer were part of the uniform only for students of Class VI and above while children of Class V and below used to wear shirts and trousers.
"We are going to impose strict rules from this academic year. Class-IV and V students should attend classes wearing ties and blazers now," said principal A.K. Singh.
On other measures, Singh said the school had uploaded all information regarding the new session, like lists of textbooks from nursery to Class X and lists of 30 BPL students to be enrolled under the RTE provisions, on the official portal.
"Now, parents cannot complain that we are forcing them to purchase books from any particular shop. They are free to buy books from wherever they wish," he added.
To improve learning, the school is introducing multimedia classes and incorporate sessions on storytelling, nature studies, safety and cleanliness as part of academic activities. Also, spelling contests will be held for higher classes.
According to Singh, spelling contests are already being practised in lower classes but the school management has decided to hold similar contests for senior students as well. "We are introducing spelling contests in Classes VI to X in the new session because even they need to improve their spellings."
Students will be awarded for keeping their classrooms neat and clean. The best classroom will be selected at the end of the academic session on the basis of the feedback given by respective class teachers.
DAV group of schools have also changed the uniform for their students.
At the pre-primary level, boys will attend classes in half-pants with gallace and shirts while girls will wear skirts with gallace and shirts.
Boys of Classes I to X will wear trousers and shirts. For girls, tunic and blouse will be the uniform at the primary level, divided skirts and blouse from Classes V-VII and salwar-kurta with attached jacket from Classes VIII to X.
Apart from changing the uniform, DAV schools have also decided to introduce yoga and chess as part of extracurricular activities for all-round development of the students.
"Also, every student will be covered by a security policy worth Rs 2 lakh and an accident policy worth Rs 20,000," DAV-Hehal principal T.P. Pati said.
These new policies will be applicable for all the five DAV schools in the capital - Bariatu, Hehal, Gandhi Nagar, Kadru and Kanke.
The group is also organising a two-day workshop from Wednesday to apprise teachers of new changes made by CBSE to ensure stress-free education. Around 700 teachers from DAV schools in the Ranchi zone will take part in the workshop.
