Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Hinoo was established under Bhubaneswar region in 1966. The school, which does not charge any fees from girls till Class XII is spread over 4.7 acres and has its own building with spacious classrooms, laboratories, library, computer laboratories and a huge playground.
Besides, all the KVs have adopted a twin-school system within its many branches, to assess the overall growth of any branch. With the constant interaction, between two branches the schools strives to do away their weaker points and work towards the development of the institutions as well as that of its students.
School principal S. Roy, feels that for the all-round development of students, teachers, parents and students need to develop a triangular relation. ?Students, teachers and parents should together comprsie the three points of the triangle. The triangle has students at the base, supported by teachers and guardians on the either side, always there to help a child cope with any situation,? feels principal, S. Roy. To provide this promised help, the school has also developed a website, ?Think.com? for students. Every student has their own ID but whatever they do has to be done with the permission from the teachers. Guardians may even keep a track of their wards? overall performance, in the separate pages created exclusively for the parents.
Subjects offered
At present, the school has three sections each from Class I to X and three sections in plus-two. (Two for science and one for humanity). In science ? physics, chemistry, mathematics, informatics practices, Hindi (core) and English (core) are taught. A humanities student can opt for history, geography, economics, maths, Hindi (core) and English (core).
Library

The school has a very well-stocked library with more than 10,000 titles on different subjects. It subscribes to many newspapers, periodicals, magazines of education values. In addition, the school also provides a separete reading room with books mainly on exams in firlds such as engineering, medical and others. This facility of a separate reading and library room, is often utilised by students in their leisure periods to catch up with work.
Labs
The school has some well- equipped laboratories for practical classes in science and technology, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics practices.
Presently, KV has 48 computers for information technology classes. It also provides ample opportunities to inculcate a congenial environment for the all-round development of a child?s personality and his or her integration with the society.
KV also provides a wide range of opportunities to the latent talents in the field of art, literature, sport and games and provides them with the exposure that helps them overcome any sort of performance anxietes.
So far, the efforts have paid off as students have made the school proud by winning gold medal at national level in athletics.
Activities
The former students of the school had organised a health camp recently. There were the medical students under the aegis of Suman Dubey, an ex-student and a doctor by profession. During the health camp, students had their eyes, skin and teeth checked. Around 150 students from Class XII attended the health camp.
Previously, KV had also conducted a two-day workshop for 247 students of Class X and XII. The teachers from 25 KVs of the state also participated in the workshop. It was conducted to analyse the results of Class X and XII and come up with strategies and ideas to be adopted to improve results especially in the board examinations of Class X and XII. Besides, study materials on different subjects were also supplied to the students.
Recently, the school also organised an intensive training programme for its drawing and yoga teachers. There is no dearth of programmes for both the students and teachers alike as they both assist each other to grow.
Admission policy
A child must be at least five years old on September 30 of academic year in which admission is been sought for Class I. No child would be eligible for admission in a class if the age is more than the age prescribed. The maximum age would be relaxable by two years for physically challenged children.
Admissions are accepted on the basis of a qualifying test. Priority for admission is also given to the children of transferable and non-transferable central government employees including former servicemen, to children of non-transferable and transferable employees of state government, children of transferable, non-transferable employees of autonomous bodies, public sector undertaking and institute of higher learning of the state government.
