Security measures have been stepped up in trains and stations at Dhanbad division of East Central Railway after a low intensity bomb was recovered from the toilet of Akal Takht Express at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
An intensive search operation was conducted in long-distance trains passing through Dhanbad station, including Howrah Ranchi Shatabdi Express and Down Mumbai Mail, from 8.45am to 10am on Friday.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of senior commandant of Dhanbad division Vinod Kumar. Officer-in-charge of Dhanbad RPF B.M. Mishra was also present.
"We checked passenger belongings, dustbins and the toilets during the drive in which two sniffer dogs were also pressed into service," Mishra said.
Travel ticket examiners (TTEs) have been asked to instruct the coach attendants and pantry car staff to be more alert and report any suspicious item found inside the train.
Mishra said a meeting would be held with the porters, drivers and TTEs at the Dhanbad station on Friday evening apprising them about the ways they can help the security forces to ensure foolproof safety.
"The special checking drive will continue till the Independence Day in all trains with special focus on long-distance ones," Mishra added.
Around 1.30am on Thursday, a low-intensity bomb with wires wrapped around it was detected inside the toilet of the B-3 AC coach of the Akal Takht Express, which was going from Calcutta to Amritsar. A letter vowing revenge for the death of LeT terrorist Abu Dujana, who was gunned down by the security force in Kashmir on August 1, was also found with the bomb.
