East Singhbhum shines

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum paddlers claimed four top slots in the 1st Jharkhand State Ranking Table Tennis Championship, which concluded at Holy Cross School at Ghatotand in Ramgarh on Sunday.

While Archita Dey won the title in the sub-junior girls' category with a comfortable 4-1 win over district mate Disha Narang, Khushi Kumari put it across Dhanbad paddler Hemlata Sinku 4-2.

East Singhbhum's Mrinmaya Pradhan excelled in the junior boy's section by pulling up a confident 4-0 rout over district mate Karan Raj even as Shruti Mahananda emerged women's champion by drubbing district mate Khushi Kumari with a 4-1 margin.

Shivaji Roy of West Sing-hbhum won the men's title by claiming a 4-0 win over his Ranchi opponent Somnath Kumar. Ranchi's Avinav Kumar bagged the crown in the junior boy's section by winning a stiff final 4-3 against Garhwa's Amal Kumar Thakur.

East Singhbhum District Table Tennis Association secretary Ujjal Chatterjee said they always had faith in the prowess of their paddlers. "Our paddlers were in form and that showed in Bokaro."

Ramgarh SP A. Vijaya Laxmi handed over the prizes in the presence of deputy development commissioner Sunil Kumar, Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh president Mohan Mahto, Jharkhand State Table Tennis Association secretary Jaikumar Sinha, human resources management chief of Tata Steel's West Bokaro division Praveen Sinha and his counterpart in capacity enhancement project Anand Kumar.
