Durga or Sundari? Or will the Miss World crown rest on both these regal beauties jointly this time?

Bollywood’s original wild cat Priyanka Chopra, who first roared for Birsa zoo by adopting tigress Durga in 2011 and followed it up by bringing lioness Sundari under her care a year later, has probably lined up two gifts for the Ranchi animal park this time.

Zoo authorities are tight-lipped at the moment. However, the mystery shrouding her choice will hopefully get cleared on Sunday when PC’s mother Madhu Chopra visits the park.

“My sister is in Calcutta at present and is coming to Ranchi tomorrow (Saturday) evening. She will be staying at a relatives place in Ashok Nagar and next morning will head to Birsa zoo,” the actor’s aunt Neela Akhori told The Telegraph over phone from Jamshedpur on Friday.

“I have already informed zoo director A.K. Patra. Madhu will fly back to Mumbai in the evening,” she added.

Akhori, however, is unaware of PC’s choice. “It will be better if you could directly speak to her mother,” she said.

The zoo authorities are elated at Priyanka’s move, though they are clueless about who will get a star parent this time. Insiders claimed the actor had asked for health reports of both the tiger and the lion and also a monkey around a month ago. The management had mailed her the details.

The actor’s last feline foster child was Sundari whose one-year adoption tenure expired in July.

Priyanka aside, the zoo management has also been trying to woo team India skipper M.S. Dhoni to enrol for the animal adoption programme.

Mahi was named state ambassador for forest and wildlife during Arjun Munda’s tenure. But, nothing much came about that.

“When he came to Ranchi last time about a month ago, we tried to meet him. But, he had to leave suddenly for Mumbai. Now, he is here, but we are yet to get an opportunity to meet him,” said Patra.

Birsa zoo has around 1,200 animals. The animal adoption programme was launched in 2011 and the authorities are now upbeat with the overwhelming response.

Currently, the foster parents list include SAIL, which took charge of three elephants, Mecon that stepped in as the guardian of tiger Sugreev and three leopards and Punjab National Bank that looks after seven peacocks. All these animals have been adopted for a period of five years. Besides, two residents — Ramesh Chakraborty and Indira Chakraborty — had adopted a langur and an eagle last year.
