Jamshedpur, April 17: Residents of Sonari and its neighbouring areas need not travel to Tatanagar railway station or Sakchi to reserve their railway tickets. A new computerised reservation centre will soon be set up by the district administration with help from the Tata Steel and railway authorities.
Tata Steel has agreed to provide a room at its community centre in Sonari for the new counter.
A few months ago, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Nidhi Khare had written to the Tata Steel requesting the steel major to help in the fructification of this project by providing the space.
“We have got a positive response from Tata Steel,” district officials said, adding that the Khare has informed the local railway officials about the decision of the steel major.
Situated at an extreme end of the city, residents of Sonari and its neighbouring areas had to travel to either Tatanagar railway station or Sakchi railway computerised reservation counter to book their tickets. The population of Sonari and its neighbouring areas have swelled as several new houses and apartments have come up there.
“We were flooded with requests from the people that a computerised reservation counter should be opened at Sonari. Khare took up the matter with the local railway officials,” officials said.
Sources said work on the project would begin as soon as a few nitty gritties are cleared by Tata Steel. “Khare will write to Tata Steel for clarifications on certain points,” the sources said.
According to railway authorities, they are yet to plan how many counters would operate at the Sonari reservation centre.
“The details will be finalised after discussions with senior officials of the Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway,” railway officials said. They added that at least two counters would set up.
Sources said the district administration was also planning to set up a reservation counter in in Mango.
“Mango too needs a computerised reservation centre, as the number of people residing there has increased manifold in the recent past,” officials said. District officials said they would help the railway authorities find a plot of land in Mango for setting up the reservation counter.
