Jamshedpur, April 12: A gang of masked thieves swooped on the company quarters of a Tata Steel employee in Burmamines locality at 1.30am today, stabbing a family member and decamping with cash and valuables worth over Rs 50,000.

The thieves gained entry into the residence of one S. Das (50), by scaling the boundary wall. They had broken into an almirah and were removing valuables, when Das’ wife Anjana woke up, followed by her husband and son Mohan. On meeting with resistance, one of the gang members stabbed Mohan.

Mohan (20), his left hand bleeding profusely, was admitted to Tata Main Hospital.

Around 1.30am, Das woke up due to commotion and saw his wife surrounded by three masked men trying to snatch her chain. “My screams woke up Mohan. That’s when he was attacked. The trio then ran out with the loot,” said Das.

Das said he chased the robbers, but could not catch them. “But there were two more waiting outside,” he said.

He added the criminals had taken a mangalsutra and some other small pieces of jewellery, Rs 7,000 and four cell phones.

SP (city) Jatin Narwal said those involved had a good idea of the family and its habits.

An FIR has been lodged.
