Ranchi, Feb. 17: Four months have passed since the fake medical admission racket was unearthed in three colleges in the state capital, but the state vigilance bureau has made little headway in the case.
And considering the fact that work is moving at a snail’s pace, it is unlikely that there will be any immediate breakthrough.
The vigilance probe started in October last year after more than 20 cases of fake admissions were detected in Rajendra Medical Institute of Sciences, Ranchi, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur, and Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad. The candidates had sent dummies for written tests and counselling.
Sources revealed that thumb impressions, handwritings, photographs, application forms, admit cards, permanent and local addresses collected from 465 students are lying in the possession of senior officers for the past 15 days.
“The vigilance team has information about people who can give provide them crucial leads. But, the members did not interrogate these people due to reasons best known to them,” said an official.
DGP, vigilance, Neyaz Ahmed, denied the allegations, saying that the reason behind the delay was the lack of infrastructure.
“The forensic science laboratory in our state does not have the facility to test handwritings and signature. We will have to send all the documents outside the state. The process is time-consuming. We have written to the government to release funds for the work and are now waiting for a directive,” Ahmed said.
