Ranchi, March 27: How do you cope with pressure-cooker situation? Perhaps, create one and learn to handle it. At least that is what Ranchi University has decided to do.

In a bid to calm the nerves of examinees, who invariably crack under pressure, the postgraduate department of English is putting them to (mock) test, before the final battle.

The final year students of English literature are appearing for the “internal assessment examination” to get the feel of the real test.

“The students usually take internal assessments very lightly as the marks scored do not matter in the certification process. But we have made the assessment mandatory for the students as it will give them a feel of the final examination,” said department head K. Kumar.

The department had announced the date of examination in advance and issued specials admit cards to the students.

“We have made a special seating arrangements. Teachers have been deployed for the examination. We have re-scheduled the classes in the second half so that the mock tests are taken seriously,” he added.

“After the assessment session is over, the teachers will check the papers. The results will be announced within a week,” Kumar added.

“I got the idea for the mock test when I was at Marwari College. When I was transferred here, I suggested the idea to university officials,” he said.

“It was during the tenure of then vice-chancellor Amit Khare, now the education secretary, that the proposal took shape. He approved the idea and the present batch is the third in order to take the internal assessment,” Kumar added.
