Five teenagers, including three Class XI students, were arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing a scooter from Jubilee Park in Bistupur, Jamshedpur, on the evening of Saturday, November 26.
The three students are minors aged 17. The two others, Roshan Kumar and Vishal Kumar, are 19 and employed with caterers. All five are residents of Sidhgora.
Bistupur thana OC Anuj Kumar said the five had thought of an innovative plan to steal the scooter of a Class XI boy Amit Verma (17) of JKS School in Mango. Amit used to attend the same Aambagan tutorial in Sakchi as the three boys among the five accused.
"On November 26, after the tutorial class got over in the evening, one of the accused students had asked for the key of Amit's two-wheeler on some pretext. Amit gave him the key, but when he asked for it, he was told it was lost. Another accused student then asked Amit to bring a duplicate key from his house in Tamolia, some 10km from Sakchi," he said.
The accused student even took Amit to his house in Tamolia on his bike for the key. Once the duo returned, Amit and the three accused students went to Jubilee Park.
There, Amit saw his scooter standing outside Jubilee Park. His suspicions allayed, Amit went along with the three boys inside the park to spend some time. But, when he came out, the scooter was gone.
Immediately, Amit lodged an FIR at Bistupur thana.
On Monday morning, police grilled the three students, following which they confessed to the theft.
Their interrogation threw up the names of Vishal and Roshan, their older friends, who were picked up from their respective homes. Vishal and Roshan had taken away the scooter using the first key when the three schoolboys were inside Jubilee Park with Amit.
The stolen vehicle was recovered from Vishal's house in Baridih Bustee.
"Vishal and Roshan will be sent to Ghaghidih jail after being produced before a judicial magistrate. The rest three accused, being minors, will be sent to Ghaghidih remand home on Tuesday," the Bistupur OC said, adding that none had criminal antecedents.
