Debapriya Adhikary |
Ranchi, Jan. 16: In an age of westernised Indian youths, there are still many who have, by their hard work and dedication, preserved the rich tradition of Indian classical music and claimed accolades at the national level.
Nineteen-year-old Debapriya Adhikary of Sindri is one who not only tried to explore the vastness of Indian classical music but also brought laurels for his state. He recently won the first prize at the national-level All-India Radio (AIR) music competition in classical vocal (khayal) category and was honoured the status of “B” grade artist.
A final year BA (English honours) student of Vinoba Bhave University, Debapriya is to perform at a music conference in Calcutta in January 18.
His inspiration to learn music came from his mother Anita Adhikary, who has done Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. At present he is also a final year student of Sangeet Praveen (M. Mus.) at the Samiti. At 10, he came under the tutelage of Samaresh Chawdhary who discovered Debapriya’s talent.
