Speaking about the help sought by the administration, district civil surgeon, AK Lal said that a health department team which carries out Covid test of the incoming passengers at platform No 1 in the Tatanagar station round-the-clock hardly succeeds to subject to each and every passenger who gets down from a train at the station.

"Most of the passengers manage to escape the Covid tests, but after three positive cases were detected recently at the Tatanagar station, we had to take a tougher stand at the Tatanagar station testing centre so that every incoming passenger can be subjected to the Covid test," said Lal while talking to The Telegraph Online.

The civil surgeon said the status of Covid positive cases in the district is well under control as the number of the new cases remaining in single digit since the past two months.

"But if the incoming passengers continue to come to the city getting infected from other states, then it may prove dangerous for the people residing here. No one can prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the city once again," warned the senior health department official.

Inspector, RPF, Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari said they are aware of the district administration's step towards strengthening the Covid testing process at the Tatanagar station.

"Earlier when Covid-19 cases were at the peak, the Scouts and Guides of the railway schools were deputed for making incoming passengers for getting tested at the Covid test at the Tatanagar station platform. But as the number of cases subsided considerably, their voluntary service was withdrawn. But from Sunday personnel from the RPF and also from the government railway police have started making the passengers undergo Covid test at the station platform," said Tiwari while talking to The Telegraph Online.

During the past 24 hours, two Covid positive cases were detected from the district, including one from the Tatanagar station.
