Jamshedpur: South Eastern Railway has cancelled two express trains from November 27 for six months as the maintenance hub at Tatanagar station is being renovated.

The trains, Tatanagar-Mumbai LTT Antyodaya Express and Tatanagar-Visakhapatnam Special Express, are among a dozen-odd trains that are maintained at the washing line at the station.

Senior Tatanagar station official A. Sengupta said on Monday that after the renovation, the washing line would be able to accommodate trains with as many as 26 coaches which is seven more than what it has been handling till now.

"The washing line has three railway tracks for carrying out necessary maintenance of mail, express and passenger trains, especially those originating from Tatanagar. Two of these tracks would be closed first during the work commencing on November 27," he explained.

The official said the decision to suspend operations of the two trains had to be taken because of the extent of the work. "Both the trains would start running after the renovation work gets over, " he said.

Officials at Tatanagar loco shed said maintenance of about a dozen mail, express and passenger trains take place at the washing line.

Among these are Steel City Superfast Express, Tata-Danapur Express, Tata-Alleppey Express, Barbil-Bilaspur Passenger, Tata-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh Express and Tata-Yeshwantpur Express.
