An attractive 56 off 62 balls by opener Amitesh Mishra helped Tata Steel defeat Usha Martin by three wickets in a JSCA institution league tie at Keenan Stadium on Monday.
Replying to 191 posted by Usha Martin, Tata Steel attained the target in the 41st over by losing seven wickets. Amitesh's innings was studded with six boundaries and he was well supported by Mithun Mukherjee, who scored 47. Suraj Kumar contributed 22.
Aman Kumar bowled well to claim four wickets, while S. Utkarsh Rao bagged three. But their efforts were not enough to stop Tata Steel from winning.
Usha Martin's innings revolved around a fine 53 by Abhishek Gupta. He was well supported by Kamal Husaain (43) and Anjan Nandi (40 not out). The team scored 191 for 8 before the overs ran out.
For Tata Steel, Arif Hussan and Mithun Mukherjee claimed three wickets each.
In the other outing at Telco ground, Rungta Mines beat Tata Motors by 9 wickets. Chasing a low target of 109, Rungta Mines reached the same in 14.3overs with openers Kumar Suraj and Chandan Singh scoring 50 and 47 runs, respectively.
Under-16 title
Jamshedpur won the JSCA inter-district under-16 (Elite Group) tournament by posting a 5-wicket win over Simdega in the final at Birsa Munda Cricket Stadium in Chaibasa.
Chasing a target of 154, Jamshepdur reached the total in 31.4 overs, but lost five wickets. A fine 46 by Man of the Match Pramit Singh laid the foundation for the win while an unbeaten 27 by Shivam Kumar helped the team's cause.
Skipper Ankit Kumar (24), Abhinandan Jha (17) and Sharandeep Bhati (16) also contributed to Jamshedpur's win.
Earlier, Simdega failed to put up an impressive total on the board with the entire team getting dismissed for 153. Barring Nikhil Yadav and Satya Setu, who scored 29 and 38 runs respectively, no other batsmen could contribute much.
Ritesh Kumar Yadav and Ankit Kumar claimed three wickets each, while Manishi and Abhay Kumar picked up two wickets apiece.
Under-19 camp
Five Jharkhand cricketers Atul Singh Surwar, Rahil Reyaz Khan, Shresth Sagar, Shubham Kumar Singh and Balkrishna Sharma have been included in the 25-member shortlist for the Zonal Cricket Academy under-19 East Zone camp to be held at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi from May 1 to 25.

Wards of Tata Steel employees were handed over sports scholarship awards for 2015-16 on Monday. Winners included footballer Shiv Nandan Yadav (Jharia, Rs 60,000), athletes Sapna Kumari (West Bokaro, Rs 36,000), Nitu Kumari (Jamadoba, Rs 36,000), archers Durgawati Kumari (West Bokaro, Rs 36,000), Madhumita Kumari (West Bokaro, Rs 36,000) and Pintu Kumar Rana (Jharia, Rs 36,000). Tata Steel sports wing chief Ravi Radhakrishnan did the honours.
