Hazaribagh, Dec. 11: Visitors to the district transport office on Lake Road need not worry about cash any longer. From Wednesday, they can swipe cards at the three point of sale machines procured from Bank of India.

DTO Pranav Pal said his office saw daily cash inflow of around Rs 8 lakh. "It was always tough to manage such huge amounts. It delayed work and there was a constant security threat on way to banks. Going cashless is the only solution," he added.

Sources said the DTO had forwarded a proposal in this regard to Ranchi in August, long before demonetisation. It did not get the go-ahead then. But, demonetisation made the authorities change plan.

DTO Pal said they needed 19 machines, 10 for the Chordaha checkpost on GT Road in Chouparan, which collects toll tax from heavy vehicles, seven for the office on Lake Road and two for patrolling vehicles that impose spot fines.
