Swindler siblings in police net

Jamshedpur, Sept 16: Shiv Kumar Shah, who was accused of duping a leading city-based industrialist and swindling him of Rs 10 lakh was arrested by the Adityapur police in Bistupur. Shiv Kumar Shah alias Shiv Kumar Chowdhary and his brother Biren Shah, both residents of Calcutta, were absconding a day after being implicated in the case in November last.

According to sources in the police, even after being wanted by the Adityapur police, Shah had come to the city to take part in an exhibition at Tulsi Bhavan in Bistupur.

The accused had come here along with his staff to promote product some product in the exhibition.

The complainant got a wind of Shiv Kumar’s presence in the city and immediately informed the Adityapur police.

According to sources, the police raided Tulsi Bhavan but failed to spot the accused. But they laid a trap anticipating that the accused Shiv Kumar would turn up at the exhibition sooner or later.

The next morning, the accused turned up at Tulsi Bhavan and was nabbed.

As the accused Shiv Kumar Shah was evading arrest, a team of Adityapur police was planning to go to Calcutta for his arrest but before they could start for the metro, they were tipped about the accused. Shiv Kumar Shah and his brother had set up an industrial unit in Adityapur industrial area two years ago and by establishing goodwill among fellow industrialists, they traded on credit.

They had paid their dues in cheques which were dishonoured in banks. The Shah brothers had swindled about Rs 40 lakh.

Later, one of the victims lodged an FIR against the duo. According to sources, the police would take the accused Shiv Kumar Shah in police remand to ascertain how many industrialists and traders were duped by them.

The sources said the police expect some breakthrough once the accused opens up and spills the beans.

The police can get an idea how much money the siblings have bungled.

The police claim to have found out the the accused’s modes operandi and said they would just find out details related to the fraud.

According to sources in the police, prior to targeting industrialists of the steel city, the Shah brothers had operated in cities like Ahmedabad, Delhi and Kanpur and duped several businessmen and traders in a similar manner.
