Jamshedpur, May 31: As Class X results are out, the rat race for admission to city-based constituent colleges of Ranchi University has begun.
At most colleges, including Jamshedpur Workers’ College, Jamshedpur Co-operative College, Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College and Abdul Bari Memorial College, prospectuses are available for the new academic session, which is scheduled to begin from June 27.
Prospectuses at Jamshedpur Women’s College and Graduate School College for Women would be made available from June 1.
The academic session at these two colleges would begin from July 3.
A new trend is seen among students this year as colleges are being flooded with enquiries for three-year self-financing vocational courses.
Sources at Jamshedpur Workers’ College said, apart from the regular three-year degree course, majority of the students has shown interest in office management and secretarial practise course.
Jamshedpur Workers’ College principal S.S. Razi told The Telegraph that the first merit list of students for admission to intermediate course would be published on June 10, while for the three-year degree course the merit list would be published on June 15.
“We are receiving a good response for the office management and secretarial practise course, as several Plus Two and intermediate students have shown interest in taking admission to the course this year,” he said. The college has 50 seats for the course.
At Jamshedpur Co-operative College, about 100 enquiries have been poured in for its three-year Bachelors in Computer Application (BCA) vocational course.
The BCA course, which has 40 seats, was introduced last year. Sources in the college said, students who passed the CBSE and ICSE Class X examinations have also opted for intermediate science and commerce streams.
“Compared to last year, this year, more students from the CBSE and ICSE boards are opting for the course,” Jamshedpur Co-operative College principal N.N. Thakur said.
