Over 100 postgraduate and undergraduate students of PK Roy Memorial College, a constituent of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), protested on their Dhanbad campus on Wednesday against transfer of two associate professors to varsity headquarters in Hazaribagh.
Carrying placards and raising slogans, they gathered in front of Vivekanand Block of the college's administrative building at 11am. The students demanded immediate revocation of the transfer order issued to English professor Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhary and physics professor D.K. Giri on January 3 and even threatened to launch a massive protest at VBU headquarters after January 9.
A memorandum was also submitted to professor in-charge S.K.L. Das.
"The English department has the second highest strength of around 600 students after history. With the transfer of one teacher, we are now left with only two teachers," said Param Jha, a postgraduate English student.
But VBU vice chancellor Gurdeep Singh made it clear that the transfer order would not be reversed. "The transfer has been made in order to meet the crisis of teachers at the university headquarters. The strength of teachers in Dhanbad is competitively more than Hazaribagh and there is no plan to revoke the transfer order," he said.
