Jamshedpur, May 23: The court of chief judicial magistrate, P.K. Maitra, took cognisance against a person who allegedly misled the judiciary by impersonating as an advocate of Jharkhand High Court.

The court took cognisance against the accused, Sanjay Kumar Jha, on the complaint petition filed by advocate Bindu Dhari Singh. The complainant is member of Jamshedpur District Bar Association and a practising advocate at the district court.

According to Singh, Jha misled the court by his claims. He used the services of Singh in filing a false case against the then deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Sudhir Kumar Jha and one sub-inspector Jeetender Kumar Thakur in the court on September 20, 2001. The accused had also made a false statement in the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate by declaring himself a practising advocate at the Jharkhand High Court.

Since the accused had claimed to be an advocate, Singh had not charged any fee for the case. “At the time when he claimed to be a practising advocate he was merely a student at Jamshedpur Co-operative College. I wanted to bring to the court’s notice, how Jha misled everyone for over three years by claiming to be an advocate,” said Singh.

The accused is absconding from the city to evade arrest in a fraud case registered against him at Sidhgora police station.
