Strike against stale dairy

Dhanbad, Oct. 20: Fresh dairy products seem to be giving Dhanbad a miss as retailers of Bokaro Dairy Product downed their shutters today. The retailers supported by some distributors are on a strike demanding the replacement of some rotten products sent by the company.

The strike will be on Wednesday evening till Thursday morning. The retailers will be back in business on Thursday.

Venting ire against the management’s alleged unsympathetic attitude, one of the retailers, Ranjit Kumar Deogharia, who’s shop is near BDO office in Chiragora said the management never responds to the complaints regarding rotten products and neither do they replace them as a result they have to bear losses.

The products available in the district include toned milk, skimmed milk, cow’s milk and curd.

Customers were supplied with old toned milk during Eid this year, which led to a confrontation with the retailers. Deogharia added that there have been many instances when products like curd have been sent after expiry date. As they can’t sell the products, they are caught in a difficult situation.

Expressing sympathy with demands of the retailers a Dhanbad based retailer Shailesh Singh said that the dairy management should have looked into the concern of the retailers who often suffer losses due to the supply of the stale products.

He however said that, as around 10 per cent of the retailers were not striking, vehicles would supply them with products, as their shops will be open.

Denizens of Dhanbad faced milk crisis on Tuesday as the retailers of the Bokaro Dairy product shut their shutters demanding replacement of the rotten products. The retailers were also backed by the some of the distributors. Notably, the Bokaro Dairy Product including toned milk, skimmed milk, Cow Milk, curd are supplied at different outlets across the district.

Venting ire against the Dairy management alleged unsympathetic attitude, one of the retailer, Ranjit Kumar Deogharia said that the management never responds to the complaint of the rotten products and also their in no provision of the replacement of the rotten products consequently they have to bear loss.

Old toned milk was supplied across the district during the Eid Festival this year resulting into confrontation of the customers as people came to our place seeking replacement of the product Deogharia who has his shop near BDO office Chiragora added that at many occasions products like curd are supplied very late after the expiry of the product creating humiliating situation for them as they can’t sell the products after the expiry period of the product.

Deogharia further said that the retailers would also be observing strike during the Thursday Morning and will open their sutters only during the Thursday evening.

Expressing sympathy with demands of the retailers a Dhanbad based retailer Shailesh Singh said that the dairy management should have looked into the concern of the retailers who often suffer losses due to the supply of the stale products.

He however said that the some of the retailers have made demand for the product and the vehicles would be ready to supply milk products to such retailers who will keep their shops open.
