Ranchi, Aug. 3: The government today lodged an FIR against senior IPS officer Pervez Hayat for allegedly raping and threatening a tribal girl, who was secretly filmed, with her consent in an intimate position with inspector-general of police P.S. Natarajan.
Natarajan, who has been placed under suspension, has gone missing since yesterday when an FIR was filed against him and two others in the case.
Hayat, who was the deputy inspector-general (Palamau) when he had allegedly sexually exploited the girl, is now in Delhi on central deputation. The FIR, under Sections 376/3a (rape) and 506 (threatening) of the IPC and Section 3(12) SC/ST Act, was filed in the Sadar police station in Daltonganj.
The FIR was lodged on the basis of the statement by the victim alleging that Hayat had raped and then physically exploited her by making promises of a job in the police department in 2002. In 2004, the girl claims she took the matter to Natarajan, then Hayat?s immediate boss, who agreed to investigate.
Speaking to The Telegraph over phone, Hayat said he had been trapped in a pre-planned conspiracy. ?The matter was given to Natarajan for investigation but he had given me a clean chit. Now why am I again being dragged into the same case??
?I have got nothing to do with the matter. If the report of Natarajan is wrong, any independent agency can make an inquiry again. I am ready for this. The girl has always accused one or the other person of physical exploitation. I am innocent,? he said.
Ranchi senior SP Anil Palta said prima facie, evidence proved the involvement of Natarajan in the incident. Police, he said, were on the trail of the IG and would soon nab him. ?The clues and the evidence that we have come across till now show the involvement of Natarajan in the act. We are making more investigations at present and the accused will be caught soon. We are searching for him,? Palta said.
Police sources said the raid on Flat No 4-D of Kalinga Apartment, where the girl stayed and where the sting video was shot, had thrown up several clues for the police. ?We recovered a lot of pornographic CDs from the house. We also found some romantic books gifted to the girl by Natarajan whose signature is on them,? said an officer.
A day after her name was included in the FIR, the Cambridge School management placed English teacher Madhupriya Ganguly under suspension. Ganguly was taken into custody yesterday and is now in jail custody.
The school authorities have requested the police to allow them to collect some sets of answersheets of students from the flat. Ganguly had taken them to her flat in Kalinga Apartments for correction.
City SP Suman Gupta claimed Ganguly had confessed that Natarajan used to come to her place and she used to pressure the girl to agree to his demands.
