Jamshedpur, Nov. 1: Jharkhand’s Prosonjit Paul today defeated Jaisal Kohli Mariwala of Maharashtra to book a seat in the final of the under-16 boys’ singles at Tata Steel-ONGC Talent Series Tennis Championship.
At JRD Tata Sports Complex here, Paul defeated Mariwala 6-1, 6-0. He will play against New Delhi’s Eishaan Bahuguna in the final tomorrow. Fourth-seeded Bahuguna defeated second-seeded Amrit Mukherjee from Bengal 6-0, 6-2 to reach the final.
In the girls’ singles under-16, Mohana Sarkar of Bengal defeated Srijita Ghosh from the same state 6-2, 6-1.
She is in line for a triple title as she is also in the finals of the singles under-18 and the doubles.
In the boys’ doubles under-16 semi-final, Nihal Singh and Rakesh Kumar of Bihar and Prateek Pushkar Baxi and Devesh Giri of Chhattisgarh reigned supreme.
The Bihar boys defeated the boys from Jharkhand, whereas the New Delhi team could not match the Chhattisgarh lads.
In the under-18 boy’s doubles semis, C.H. Rohit and Sriram Gautam of Andhra Pradeh and Paul of Jharkhand and Baibhav Das of Bengal are through to the final.
