Ranchi: Jharkhand’s anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested one more person identified as Kamendra Singh from Dhanbad in connection to an alleged illegal arms supply to CPI (Maoists) and other banned criminal outfits in the country. Two days ago, it had arrested three persons including a CRPF constable on a similar crime.
Announcing the latest breakthrough, ATS in a communiqué said that Singh was arrested from the Chirkunda police station area in Dhanbad. Police also seized two country-made pistols, live cartridges (14) and magazines (three).
ATS sleuths informed that Singh’s name surfaced during the interrogation of three persons held two days ago post which raid teams were formed to trace and track him. “Pankaj Kumar Singh, who was part of the three criminals held before during the interrogation, had revealed that Kamendra and few of his accomplices were also part of their racket and were operating from Dhanbad. Kamendra is also a coal trader and was active in land related dealings,” said ATS officials, adding that they have sourced details about the deeper network of illegal arms racket after the fourth arrest and raids were on to nail them.

Steel City: Two held for alleged snatching

Jamshedpur: Police on Thursday arrested two men who had allegedly tried to loot Rs 8.5 lakh from a staff of Cash Management Service (CMS) company at Bistupur on November 15 evening.
Those arrested were identified as Rajeev Sharma (32) and Ram Sundar Sharma (28), both residents of Parsudih and Kadma respectively. Disclosing on the breakthrough, senior SP, M Tamil Vanan said that the police arrested the two following a statement made by a CMS official Jitendra Kumar Singh against two unidentified bike-borne criminals who had tried to loot Rs 8.5 lakhs from him.
"The two arrested persons had tried to snatch a bag that had Rs 8.5 lakh near the St Mary's Church on N Road in Bistupur at 5 pm on Monday. Having failed to snatch the bag due to the resistance put up by the victim, one of the two criminals opened fire at the victim. The shot had hit the victim's right leg, causing a minor injury, " said the senior police officer while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Though the victim had sustained a superficial injury, he had gone to Tata Main Hospital for treatment, leading the police to come to know about the abortive bid of loot.
Vanan said Singh used to be associated with collection of cash from business establishments and get the money deposited with the company office at Ranikudar in Bistupur.
The senior SP said one of the accused, Rajeev who would work at a prominent courier company was known to the victim.
