Jamshedpur, April 21: A 55-year-old employee of Subernarekha Multipurpose Project’s rehabilitation department in Adityapur was killed after a speeding tractor knocked him down at Dimna in Patamda police station area today.

Mangal Singh Sardar was a resident of Mango and was returning home from Dimna on a cycle when the mishap took place near Coal Tar Company Limited. Local residents rushed him to MGM Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries an hour later.

Relatives said that Mangal had gone to take a bath in a nullah near Dimna Lake since Mango was facing acute water crisis. “Most of the residents of SMP Colony usually go to that nullah to take bath,” a relative told The Telegraph.

Police said the accident took place around 8.30am. Sub-inspector Mukesh Pandey of Patamda said the body had been sent for post-mortem and a case of rash driving registered against the tractor driver, who managed to flee with the vehicle.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old two-wheeler rider was seriously injured when a vehicle hit him at Adityapur turning on Bistupur Main Road this morning. The identity of the victim, currently admitted to Tata Main Hospital, is yet to be ascertained.
