Ranchi, Feb. 19: Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital has been certified by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). It is the first eye care unit in the state to bag the certificate.

The NABH caters to the needs of consumers and sets benchmarks for progress in the health industry. The country now boasts 25 NABH hospitals. For the NABH accreditation, the hospitals had to fulfil the standards set by the technical committee of the board and its doctors as well as staff members had to take examinations.

“After the certification, we have to regularly improve the quality of services, healthcare and epidemic control in the health centre. In short, everything in our hospital starting from equipment to services have to be of international standard from now on,” said hospital’s chief executive officer Bharti Kashyap.

Though it is only an eye hospital, the management has also trained its drivers and sweepers too in cardiopulmonary resuscitation so that they can help any patient if required. At the news conference, they gave demonstrations with a mannequin.

Kashyap said her hospital hereafter faces more challenges. “A majority of our patients comes from humble background. So, the hospital cannot function commercially. But maintaining the standards of excellence within limited resources is difficult,” she added.
