Jamshedpur, Aug. 14: After tonking bowlers in the last season, steel city lad Ishank Jaggi is raring to go in the coming domestic tournaments. After all, he has Sourav Ganguly’s tips at his beck and call.

The 20-year-old right-hander — one of the mainstays of the fragile Jharkhand Ranji batting line-up — learnt the tricks of the trade from the former Team India skipper during the three-day fitness camp of Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Calcutta.

A resident of Mango in Jamshedpur, Jaggi was invited by the KKR for the fitness camp, which was attended by 25 cricketers.

“He (Sourav) gave me some vital tips on how to play spinners. He told me to bend the body as much as possible. Other basics, including stance, mindset and approach towards the game, were also part of the session at Eden,” Jaggi told The Telegraph over phone from Calcutta.

He was scheduled to return to the city tonight as the camp has concluded.

Eager to put the knowledge in practice in forthcoming matches, Jaggi, who is already counted as an emerging batsman, said: “Sourav Ganguly is a legend. Being able to talk and spend some time with him was itself a great thing. It was a tremendous confidence booster for youngsters like me.”

Besides domestic matches, Jaggi is also looking forward to Indian Premium League season 3. He is already in the reckoning for Bangalore Royal Challengers and Delhi Dare Devils. May be even Shah Rukh Khan will call him to play for his Calcutta team.

“Nothing has been finalised yet. Moreover, a lot of time is left for IPL. Now, I am focussing on the coming matches,” he said.

Having just returned from a tour of Australia as part of the victorious 16-member India team for the Emerging Players’ tournament, Jaggi has his hands full. Apart from donning Jharkhand colours in the Ranji Trophy (including the one-day format) and other zonal tournaments, he will be padding up for the Tatas in the Corporate Cup tournament to be held in Mumbai.

Jaggi, who made his Ranji debut for Jharkhand a couple of years ago, scored 299 runs in the five matches he played last season, with a top score of 101. In the Ranji (one-day) fixture, he scored 276 runs with the highest score of 159.
