Jamshedpur, Nov. 6: Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) is due to introduce changes in its curriculum in a move to embrace social responsibility from the coming academic year.

As an attempt to bring about massive changes in the institutes vision and mission, the authorities at XLRI are working on formulating new policies, along with major changes in infrastructure and administration.

?Our faculties are working on various aspects of the proposed change. Another meeting to discuss the changes will be held in December, but the final decision can only be taken by the board in March 2006,? said Father N. Casimir Raj, director of XLRI.

When asked about the new changes in the curriculum, he said: ?Now our focus will be to make our courses more prolific and develop a better understanding of human psyche.?

He revealed that Chinese and Spanish would be the two new foreign languages incorporated into the syllabus from the next academic year.

Apart from bringing about changes in curriculum and infrastructure, the business school is also looking forward to establishing a social entrepreneurship fund for upcoming social entrepreneurs in the nation.

This fund will be given to anybody willing to venture into social entrepreneurship, but the final decision of allocating the funds will lie with a board of trustees, which will be formed during the XLRI annual reunion on November 19 and 20.

?The XLRI board of governors will meet on November 19 to form the final trust, comprising three ex-officio members and four alumni members from both the corporate and social sector. This trust, would in turn, formulate the mechanism based on which a sum would be sanctioned for any project,? said Madhukar Shukla, professor of organisational behaviour and strategic management at XLRI.

He further added that the final decision on whether to lend the sanctioned amount as loan or grant, will depend on the situation and will lie with the board of trustees.

On Saturday, XLRI signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Orissa for quality education in management courses at the Biju Patnaik University of Technology.

?Very soon we would also help the institute in establishing their e-learning courses,? revealed Fr. Casimir Raj.

He said this year Peter Eigen, founding chairman Transparency International, has been invited to be the speaker for the annual JRD Tata oration on business ethics, scheduled to be held on November 29.
