Soccer crown for Tata Motors

Jamshedpur, Aug. 27: Tata Motors emerged champions in the Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA) super division league after playing a 1-1 draw against Tata Steel at the Keenan Stadium today.

Tata Motors finished their league engagements with the maximum seven points. Tata Steel with four points had to be content with the second slot.

R.T. Singh, general manager, manufacturing, Tata Motors handed over the prizes to the winning teams. JSA president Sanjiv Paul, chairman B.C. Kumar, secretary Harbhajan Singh and other officials of the JSA were also present.

Both Tata Motors and Tata Steel played entertaining football on the concluding day of the tournament. It was an evenly-contested game with both teams trying their best to score goals.

Tata Motors, which was leading the points table with six points prior to this match, opened the account through centre forward Lal Mohan Hansda’s goal in the third minute of the match. The striker, who emerged as the top scorer of the super division with 15 goals, continued with his fine form.

Tata Steel, which had to find an equaliser to emerge runners-up, applied safe tactics by not allowing its opponent to score any more goals. This bore fruits as veteran P.S. Rao found the equaliser in the 37th minute of the first-half.
