Jamshedpur: Horticultural Society, Jamshedpur, has started preparing a pool of professional and skilled gardeners who could give your lawn a springtime feel right through the year.
Be it an apartment's balcony, a roof garden or a sprawling lawn, members of the society believe that only a trained gardener can work wonders to make your place look beautiful with a smattering of flowers.
Around 70 gardeners from the city participated in a workshop organised at Mrs. KMPM Inter College premises in Bistupur here on Sunday with the society's chairperson, Ruchi Narendran, gracing the occasion as chief guest.
During the day-long workshop, experts shared tips on nursery management and basics of garden nurturing, grafting and cutting.
The society has decided to train the gardeners in a such a way that they could start their own businesses.
"We are trying to improve their skills because gardening is still an unorganised sector. Most people think gardening can be done by anybody, but they are wrong. Besides moisture of soil and temperature, there are many other factors that gardeners need to stress upon. We are trying to help them become better professionals," said Arun Vidyut, the general secretary of the society.
Narendran appreciated the fact that the society had initiated a move to hone the skills of gardeners in the city. She also stressed on the need to organise more sessions on organic farming.
"Most gardeners don't get much exposure. So, they need to be trained. The society should also train them on organic farming which is the need of the hour. It should also find out if the gardeners need more help to improve their skills," said Narendran.
The beneficiaries of the programme were excited. "I did not know that two plants can be joined to yield desired results. I would be eager to learn more from such workshops in future," said Sonu Samant, a gardener working at a private firm in Sakchi.
"Starting a garden bed, choosing plants and watching them thrive is very rewarding. Whether you're new to gardening or just want to brush up on your skills, it's a very refreshing exercise," said another participant.
