Jharkhand claimed a silver in roll ball in the girls' U-14 category at the 62nd National School Games held in Pune from January 27 to 31.

Jharkhand maintained a clean slate in the group matches before losing the summit clash to hosts Maharashtra 7-12.

The girls won their group outings against Assam (12-6), Delhi (12-5), Madhya Pradesh (12-4) and Telengana (12-2) before pulling off a 12-9 win against Gujarat in the semi-finals.

The 9-member Jharkhand outfit comprised Uzma Khanam, Wania Zarmeen, Gunjan Sakra, Isa Sonkar, Aishwariya Singh, Aditi Ringsiya, Divya Rao, Nishika Modi and Lavika Islam. All are trainees of Tata Steel Roll Ball Training Centre in Jamshedpur.

Chandeshwar Sahoo, secretary of Jharkhand Roll Ball Association, who accompanied the team to Pune as coach, said, "All of them worked really hard to reach the finals. It was good show," said Sahoo.

He added Jharkhand girls had bagged bronze at the 2015 edition of National School Games in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. "So, it's an overall improvement," Sahoo added.

Taekwondo

A 48-member separate boys and girls teams from Kolhan (East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan) left for Bokaro on Friday to participate in the 16th State Taekwondo Championship starting Saturday. The outfit will compete in senior, sub-junior and cadet categories during the two-day event.

The Kolhan outfit was selected on the basis of performance of players during the Kolhan division tournament held at Baridih Recreation Club in Jamshedpur last month.
