Dhanbad: Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha attacked ophthalmologist Dr D.K. Gupta's clinic, which was being run from a portion of the house from where Bokaro siblings Manjushri (56) and Dipak (50) Ghosh were rescued on August 13.
Gupta, against whom an FIR was lodged on Thursday in connection with the alleged torture of the Ghosh duo, is out of town.
On Sunday, around a dozen members of the BJP youth wing, led by its district president Mayank Singh, blackened the signboard of Nav Jyoti Opticals and damaged its wooden façade.
The vandalism, which began around 1pm, continued for 15 minutes.
"Though no formal complaint has been launched over the attack so far, we will take action," Bokaro City DSP Ajay Kumar told this newspaper.
Meanwhile, the renovation of the two-storey building of Manjushri and her brother also began on Sunday.
President of Bokaro Old Xaverians' Association Kumar Amardeep said, "Funds will not be an issue in the renovation of the house or the treatment of the siblings. We have decided to make the house liveable by repairing the leaking pipelines and roof, damaged windows and doors and broken floors. Lack of maintenance has completely damaged the house."
Amardeep said the duo, who have been admitted to Bokaro General Hospital, would soon be shifted Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi.
"Both are not in a condition to talk properly. Manjushri is more serious and is facing some psychiatric issues as well. Our alumni based in Ranchi will take care of the cost of their treatment," he added.
He said Bokaro Old Xaverians' Association had nothing to do with the legal aspects of the case.
Manjushri and Dipak, residents of plot number 229 of Co-operative Colony, were found hungry and in a filthy state earlier last week when their neighbours, who had not seen the Ghosh sibling for months, called the police.
