Ranchi, Sept. 12: Zeishan Quadri, the man behind the hard-hitting script of Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur who also played a role (Definite Khan) in the movie, today openly criticised the Jharkhand government's new film policy.
"No producer will come to Jharkhand if the government charges Rs 50 lakh from them for shooting for a week. Why will they come when they will get better treatment in other states like UP? We had planned to shoot Gangs of Wasseypur 3 here but have dropped the idea now," the lad from Wasseypur in Dhanbad said while speaking to mediapersons at a Ranchi hotel.
He was in the state capital to speak about his upcoming film Meeruthiya Gangsters, which will release across the country on September 18.
His film's cast agreed.
"Whatever Zeishan has said is not only his thoughts. He is speaking on behalf of the entire film fraternity. I agree with what he has said," said Jaideep Ahalawat, who plays the role of Choudhary in Meeruthiya Gangsters.
The Jharkhand Film Shooting Regulation-2015, passed by the state cabinet on September 1, makes it mandatory for film producers to pay Rs 50 lakh for the first seven days of shooting and subsequently Rs 10 lakh per day.
The policy has been flayed by former chief minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda.
Speaking about Meeruthiya Gangsters, which has been directed and produced by Quadri, he said that it was a story about six youths from Meerut, who try to be successful by adopting shortcuts.
"This film is based on real incidents that took place in 2011 in Meerut. Most of the shooting took place in real locations, while a few parts were shot at Noida in UP," he added.
Asked about the message he was trying to convey through the movie, the Wasseypur lad said: "This film is not for messages, but entertainment."
Why so? "I don't think I can give any message in my short duration films when teachers fail to do the same all their academic careers," he laughed.
