Sharma to head CCL

Ranchi, May 14: Jai Prakash Sharma today took over as the chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of the Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).

Sharma was earlier heading the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI). Sharma’s appointment as the CCL head follows a major reshuffle in the five subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL).

The Union coal ministry on Tuesday night transferred five CMDs and two technical directors of the subsidiaries.

ECL CMD S.V. Chavji has been transferred to NCL, while NCL CMD M.K. Sinha has been shifted to ECL. CCL CMD M.K. Thapar has been transferred to SECL while M.N. Jha, SECL CMD has been shifted to CMPDI.

Director (technical) CMPDI B.N. Mishra has been shifted to NCL, while director (technical) CMPDI R.P. Ritolia has been transferred to ECL.

An engineering graduate from Raipur-based Ravishanker University, Jai Prakash Sharma had worked in different capacities in the Eastern Coalfields Limited, Northern Coalfields Limited, South Eastern Coalfields Limited and Western Coalfields Limited.

CCL sources termed the transfers as “routine” and said it was done from time to time so that employees work efficiently.
