The senate meeting of Kolhan University in Chaibasa on Friday approved a plan head budget of Rs 25.80 crore for the financial year 2015-16.

Two new women's colleges in the twin Singhbhum districts, modernisation of campuses and financial aid to cradles accounted for the total as pro-vice chancellor Shukla Mahanty read out the budget at a marathon meeting that was attended by vice chancellor R.P.P. Singh.

Decisions taken at the syndicate and academic council meetings were approved at the senate while Jagannathpur MLA Geeta Koda was inducted to the panel with the consent of all members.

The meeting approved Rs 7 crore as grants to colleges and Rs 1 crore as aid. It set aside Rs 70 lakh for free education to girl students and Rs 10 crore for campus development. A science centre has been proposed for Rs 1 crore while the two new women's colleges will be worth Rs 2 crore.

Modernisation of campus, creating PG departments and a central library and upgrading laboratories have been allocated Rs 4 crore. The senate has further approved Rs 10 lakh for seminars.

'We had submitted the budget to the HRD department in December. Since the senate meeting could not take place then, we sought its approval now,' said finance officer Sudhanshu Kumar.
