Ranchi, March 20: To have a successful relation with your child — be what your child wants to be and respect his/her views.

These points came to the fore at the discussion on — effective parenting as seen through the eyes of the opinion makers of the society —organised by Sapphire International School at a city hotel.

Former Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari, while dwelling on the issue, said child is the father of man. “A child has to look after everything as time passes,” Namdhari added “A child should not be restrained otherwise he would break the cordial relation he has with his parents. Parents should try to understand their children,” he said.

He added that 2,000 suicide cases among youngsters are reported in the country.

Vismita Tej, additional director, income tax, said praising the child when he has done well is also very important.

She added that good parenting lies in framing a correct strategy.

“There should be an open relationship among parents and children. They should not feel scared to communicate with them. If a child has a question, it should not be ignored. Otherwise he/she will throw tantrums and seek attention,” Tej added.

School psychologist Suneeta Mahapatra said parents always should not dominate their children and be understanding.
