Hazaribagh, April 26: In a nine-hour campus selection at St Columbas College, which ended around 9 pm yesterday, 14 students of various colleges of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) got jobs in Wipro.

Wipro representative Roo-pam Prasad and VBU placement committee led by principal Ajraya Hans conducted the campus selection.

More than 1,200 applications were received from students of St Columbas College, Markham College, K.B. Women’s College and Ananda College for the selection.

The company wanted convent educated young aspirants. They preferred those candidates who had appeared either in graduate or postgraduate examinations.

The team had selected 51 students for the three rounds, including a passage reading, an interview and a telephonic conversation with senior company officials in Calcutta.

Sources in Wipro said the selected candidates would have to join the company office in Calcutta and undergo training for three months, during which they will get a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month. In these three months, the company will assess the performance of the selected candidates. After the training period, they could expect a monthly salary of Rs 40,000, added the sources.

Selected candidates said they were thrilled.

“It was a great moment when I was informed on the spot about my selection,” said Aprajita Lal, a mathematics student.

This was the second campus selection for VBU students. Earlier Adhunik Group of Industries, a mining company, had selected seven geology students for their Ranchi office.

The students applauded the effort of VBU vice-chancellor M.P. Singh in organising such campus selections.
