Jamshedpur, Nov. 29: As part of its expansion plans, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is advancing with a plan to set-up three greenfield pellet plants in Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.

SAIL officials said the proposed plants would come up at Gua (in Jharkhand), which would produce one million tonnes of pellets annually. The other two plants would come up at Dalli in Chhattisgarh and Taldih mines in Orissa.

The public sector undertaking would not make any investments in setting up the pellet plants in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. It would provide iron-ore fines to the parties that would set-up the plants and in return, the parties would supply pellets to SAIL.

SAIL is in the process of developing Taldih mine in Barsua-Taldih-Kalta area through a joint venture with Kudermukh Iron Ore Company Limited.

While speaking to The Telegraph, A.K. Singh, a spokesperson of SAIL said a two million tonne capacity pellet plant would come up at the new Taldih mines. Another pellet plant of 4.30 million tonne capacity will come up at the Gua mines while the Chhattisgarh plant will be of 0.9 million tonne capacity.

Chiria will be developed to 15 million tonne per annum (MTPA) mine in first phase. The capacity of Gua ore mines will also be increased to 10 million tonnes.
