Jamshedpur, July 20: The six-member audit team from Ranchi University, which is working in city colleges now, have unearthed yet another scam at the Jamshedpur Women’s College today.

The team detected a students’ fund misappropriation of about Rs 30 lakh at the Graduate School College for Women yesterday.

Officials at Jamshedpur Women’s College said the audit team, while checking through the details, found that laboratory equipment and other articles of daily use worth Rs 3.5 lakh, purchased during the tenure of a former principal, were missing from the college. Though the entries have been made, the equipment could not be traced.

Officials said the team was also unable to locate the vouchers for the purchase of the items.

Moreover, there were also irregularities regarding money collected from students during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the college. The receipts for the money collected from the students were missing. The collection from the students during the celebrations was about Rs 65,000. “We suspect involvement of college staff. The receipts have either been destroyed or removed from the office,” said an official.

College sources said the accounts of the college have not been audited even once in the last one decade. This provided the opportunity for such large-scale embezzlement of funds, they added. The auditors refused to make any explicit comments. They, however, said they would submit a detailed audit report to the university for necessary action.

College principal Shukla Mohanty, who took over the charge just three month’s back, was also reluctant to make any comments on the irregularities.

“The anomalies that were detected took place before I took over as the principal,” she said.

Only yesterday, the audit team had detected a scam of about Rs 30 lakh from the commerce department of Graduate School College for Women. The team had sought clarification from theSakchi branch of Punjab and Sindh Bank that deals with the college account.

Audit work in these two colleges will continue for the next week.
